# Test rooms (disko dev)

> Run a game project in a test room that rebuilds and reloads on every edit.

While you build a game, you want to see each change right away, with real
players. A **test room** is a private disko room that runs your game straight
from your project folder.

```sh
npx disko dev
```

It signs you in, starts the room on your computer, and opens it in your
browser. The template also has it as `npm run dev`.

Leave it running while you work. Every time you save, the game reloads in the
room and players stay connected. If something doesn't build, the problems are
printed in the terminal and the last working version keeps running.

## Playing with others

A test room never appears in the room directory, but anyone with its link can
join. Copy the link from your browser and send it to friends or testers.

## Stopping

Press Ctrl-C. The room closes and its players are disconnected.

## More

- Run a project in another folder with `--project <dir>`.
- To try your own room behavior, such as chat rules, add a host file; see
  [`disko dev` host file](/reference/cli#disko-dev-host-file).
- For agents and scripts, `--json` prints one event per line; see
  [`disko dev` events](/reference/cli#disko-dev-events).
- An account can run two test rooms at a time; see
  [`disko dev` limits](/reference/cli#disko-dev-limits).
